Confirming the role of EPBP (European PET Bottle Platform) to drive PET bottle circularity in Europe

Subject: Confirming the role of EPBP (European PET Bottle Platform) to drive PET bottle circularity in Europe

For more than 15 years, the European PET Bottle Platform (EPBP) is playing a significant role in providing Design Guidelines for Recycling (DfR) and evaluating PET bottle packaging innovative solutions and technologies on quality of recycled PET.

A group of technical experts across the value chain provides independent and confidential assessments based on established design guidelines for recycling and new developed test procedures and quick tests through authorized test laboratories.

A clear differentiator that EPBP offers is its expertise in PET food grade materials and its behavior in a circular economy. Therefore, EPBP remains very committed to evolve as an organization and with its expertise, looks at opportunities to evolve the Design Guidelines for Recycling (DfR) towards Design Guidelines for Circularity (DfC) to guarantee high-quality food grade rPET.

In this journey, we respect the decision of PRE to leave EPBP. The remaining EPBP Members, ie. NMWE, UNESDA and PETCORE Europe are fully committed to continue the work, bringing value to companies and organizations willing to place PET bottles on the European market. We would like to thank PRE for their contribution up till today.

It is well noted that the Design Guidelines for Recycling/Circularity, EPBP Test Procedures and Quick Tests remain property of EPBP and any use by third parties have to be approved by EPBP.

EPBP looks forward to continuing to work and offers their specific expertise with everybody in a constructive way to support driving the circular economy for PET bottles in Europe.
